What else do you do when you want to start a craft beer blog and are trying to think about what to write? You crack open said craft beer and drink it while pondering the multitude of possibilities.

Let’s begin with this beer specifically. It’s an American Barley Wine kind of night as I have something special planned for later this evening that I will be sharing soon. This Lips of Faith series was very surprising. The bottle states

“Smooth as the silk ascot you should be wearing while sipping this Barley Wine Ale brewed with fresh blackberries. A trip under your nose reveals aromas of toasted oak, caramel toffee, and burgundy. Sip with purpose.”

This beer pours a light amber color with a hint of purple to it, or that could be my bias! Large off white head with good retention and legs for days! The nose is nice and crisp fruitiness with some burgundy wine and leather notes. The first sip really is as smooth as silk. It is like drinking an adult version of a fresh squeezed blackberry juice from one of those numerous juiceries popping up all over. Checking this in on untapped it is listed as an American Barley Wine, but I feel like with the fruitiness of it as well as the lack of hop aroma that it is more of an English Barely Wine (which is in accord with Beer Advocate).
